there: you spin the reels, three special symbols land, and suddenly the whole game changes. What now? By the end of this guide, you’ll know exactly what’s going on and what to expect next.

Just remember, every game is different, so always check the rules in the info panel to see how things work in that title.

What’s the Difference Between a Bonus Round and a Bonus Feature?

A bonus round is a special mini-game inside a slot, like free spins or a pick-em screen, that starts after a trigger. A bonus feature is a rule change, like a multiplier or sticky wild, that can show up in any part of the game.

Easy way to remember it: a bonus round is an extra mode, and a bonus feature is a twist that can pop up in any mode.

Quick glossary:

Base game: The regular mode of a slot, before any bonus kicks in.

Trigger: The moment a bonus round or feature starts.

Retrigger: When a bonus round starts again from inside itself, like landing more free spins during free spins.

How Do Bonus Rounds Start?

Bonuses can start in lots of ways, but these three are the most common:

Special symbols: Land 3 or more bonus symbols, and the bonus round begins.

Progress bars: Fill up the bar or collection counter next to the reels, and the bonus round starts.

Random triggers: An animation plays out of nowhere, and the bonus round kicks in.

Every game handles this differently, so check the info panel to see which method it uses.

Why Don’t All Free Spins Feel the Same?

Free spins rounds can come with a mix of extra features, and not every game uses the same ones. That’s why two free spins rounds can feel completely different. Common extras include:

Extra or sticky symbols

Multipliers

Different reels

Respins

Retriggers

Here are two examples of how free spins rounds can change things up:

Sticky Wilds

In a sticky wilds round, every wild that lands stays in place for the rest of the round. As more wilds lock in, later spins have more chances to form winning combinations.

Choose Your Spins

Some free spins rounds let you pick your setup. Either the game decides your prize first and the picks are just part of the animation, or your picks reveal results that were already set. Either way, the fun is in the reveal.

What Are Surprise Bonus Features?

Surprise bonus features are random activations that kick in without warning, like wilds dropping onto the reels, mystery symbols turning into matching symbols, random multipliers, or a surprise bonus round.

3 Clover Pots is one slot in the Luck Party lobby that uses this kind of feature.

When one starts, you’ll usually see a prompt on screen before the feature begins.
